Question 1

Q: When should I start cleaning my newborn's tongue?

Accepted Answer

It's a good idea to start cleaning your newborn's tongue as early as possible. You can begin gently wiping their tongue with a clean, damp cloth during the first few days after birth. This helps remove any milk residue and keeps the tongue clean.

Question 2

Q: Is it safe to use glycerine for cleaning a baby's tongue?

Accepted Answer

Using glycerine for cleaning your baby's tongue is not necessary. Glycerine can leave a residue on the tongue, potentially encouraging bacterial growth. It's best to stick to simple and natural methods of cleaning, such as using a clean, damp cloth or a soft-bristled toothbrush.

Question 3

Q: Why does my baby's tongue sometimes appear white?

Accepted Answer

A white coating on your baby's tongue can be a common occurrence. It is often due to milk residue, known as milk tongue. Regular cleaning of the tongue helps reduce the white coating and promotes a healthier oral environment.

Question 4

Q: How important is it to clean a baby's mouth?

Accepted Answer

Cleaning a baby's mouth is crucial for their overall oral health. It helps prevent the buildup of bacteria, which can lead to bad breath, gum disease, and even tooth decay. Establishing a regular oral hygiene routine, including cleaning the tongue, sets the stage for good oral care habits as your baby grows.

Remember to be gentle and careful while cleaning your baby's tongue. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush or a clean, damp cloth to gently wipe the tongue's surface in a circular motion. Avoid applying too much force or using abrasive materials that may cause discomfort.
