Question 1

Q: Can I use insect repellent on my baby?

Accepted Answer

While it's important to protect your baby from mosquito bites, using insect repellents on infants under two months old is not recommended. Their delicate skin can easily absorb the chemicals in most repellents. Instead, opt for physical barriers such as mosquito nets, long-sleeved clothing, and keeping your baby indoors during peak mosquito activity.

Question 2

Q: How long do mosquito bites on babies typically last?

Accepted Answer

The duration of mosquito bites on babies can vary. In most cases, mosquito bites will resolve within a few days or up to a week. However, some babies may have a stronger reaction, leading to itchiness and discomfort that can last longer. Monitoring the bites and using appropriate remedies can help soothe the symptoms.

Question 3

Q: Is it normal for mosquito bites on infants to become swollen?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it is common for mosquito bites on infants to cause localized swelling. This is part of the body's reaction to the mosquito's saliva. However, if the swelling is severe or accompanied by other concerning symptoms, it's recommended to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation.

Question 4

Q: Should I be concerned if my baby has a strong reaction to mosquito bites?

Accepted Answer

A strong reaction, such as extensive swelling, severe pain, or signs of infection, warrants medical attention. Some babies may also have an allergic reaction to mosquito bites, which can manifest as hives, breathing difficulties, or facial swelling. If you suspect your baby is having such a reaction, seek immediate medical help.
